Overview:

Regulation of the Private Rented Sector is moving rapidly up the agenda for government plans to increase efficient activities of local authorities.

The introduction of the Renters' Rights Act places a duty of local authorities to investigate and enforce a range of housing breaches, including the protection from Eviction Act 1977, which only provides the power for councils to take action. Clause 58 will be a landmark change for councils across England, requiring a reinvigoration of skills and knowledge that have been declining in the past 7 years.

This course also comes with a range of toolkits, a resource/reference book and standard letter templates that enable the officer to follow a defined process in dealing with everything from threatened illegal evictions, disconnection of utilities and seizing of a tenant’s possessions

Understand the foundations of security of tenure
Recognise the rights of sub-tenants explained
Identify the requirements for a landlord’s resident status
Understand the definition of harassment as both a civil and criminal offence
Define illegal eviction as both a civil and criminal offence
Identify civil routes to redress available to tenants
Identify criminal routes to redress available to local authority
Identify practical solutions to resolve problems and longer term solutions
