Course Content:

This course covers the basic principles of fire legislation and fire safety (Fire Safety Act 2021 and Building Safety Act 2022 and Smoke and Carbon Monoxide (amendment) Regulations 2022) and includes practical exercises to identify risks, precautions and evacuation strategies.  Building scenarios covered include single family dwellings, blocks of flats and flats above shops. 

Please note that this course is not designed as a full Fire Risk Assessment training package.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand fire legislation within the UK.

  • Describe the principles of fire, ignition, types of fire and spread.

  • Identify passive and active fire precautions and effective means of escape from fire.

  • Recognise how to manage fire safety in single family dwellings and common areas of blocks of flats.

  • Recognise fire risks in flats and houses.

  • Understand the application of HHSRS in flats, HMOs and common areas of flats.

  • Understand HMO Licensing and fire safety management.

  • Describe fire risk assessments for HMOs and common areas with evacuation strategies.

  • Recognise fire precautions in HMOs and poorly converted flats, including flats above shops.

  • Understand why fire safety is a joint responsibility.
